Guide: How to Downgrade iPhone 3G/3GS/4 iPod Touch 3G/4G to iOS 4.1 or Earlier if you have updated to iOS 4.2.1 GM [How to]

This guide is just for all those people who have updated their iOS to 4.2.1 GM and want their iDevice to downgrade to iOS 4.1 or earlier versions. In case if you don't want iOS 4.2.1 GM on your device just follow this simple guide and your Device will be downgraded. And if you haven't jailbroken your iOS 4.2.1 GM then simply follow this Guide using Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 ( Windows and  Mac)


So let start the step by step Guide to Downgrade your Device to iOS 4.1 or earlier versions:
The First step is to download the Following:

Download iOS 4.1 for iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, iPod Touch 2G 3G, 4G,
or earlier Operating System Which you want to Downgrade.

Step 2: Put your Device into DFU Mode by following these Simple steps:
  • Turn off Your Device and Connect your device to your computer and Run iTunes.
  • Press and Hold the sleep button for 2 seconds.
  • While holding the sleepbutton,Press the Home button for 10 seconds.
  • Now release the sleep button but continue Holding the home button for about 15 seconds.
 Step 3: This step is about adding Saurik’s Server address to your system hosts file. This trick make iTunes thinks it is talking to Apple, while it is talking to Cydia while the restoring process.
Locate "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\" for Windows and "/etc/" directory for Mac, then locate “hosts” file and Open it in Notepad (for Windows) or TextEdit (for Mac OS X) and add this at the bottom of the file. 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com At last it will be like that, then save it.

Step 4: Now, You will have to restore your iDevice to iOS 4.1, 4.0.2 or 4.0.1  by clicking on the iPhone icon on the left sidebar of iTunes then hold left “alt” button on Mac (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” then release the alt button, Now Select the iOS 4.1, 4.0.2 or 4.0.1 ipsw file you have already downloaded in Step 1 and let iTunes do some automated Steps.


Step 5: Now you have to exit Recovery Mode. For this, You have to Download "Tiny Umbrella",(MAC , Windows)After Downloading, Lauch "Tiny Umbrella" and click "Exit Recovery". After this your Device will automatically restart.And the Firmware is Installed!
