First of all you need to download the Following:

iOS 4.2.1 GM for iPhone 3G. (Download Link)

Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 for Windows and  Mac

Thing you should keep in Mind:

If you have an unlocked iDevice with ultrasn0w, you have to stay away from Redsn0w, as it updates your baseband to latest version, which is still unlockable till now.

Second Step: 

Use iTune to Update to iOS 4.2.1 GM Firmwares using the IPSW Files you downloaded.

Third Step:

Launch Redsn0w 0.9.6b2, and Browse for iOS 4.1 firmware final version (NOT iOS 4.2.1 GM).

Fourth Step:

Install Cydia and Press the "Next" Button.

Fifth Step:

At this Point your Device should be Turned Off and Connected to the Computer. Then Click "Next".

Now you have to put your Device into Dfu Mode, Follow the simple steps to put your Device into DFU Mode:

• First of all,Press and Hold the sleep button for 2 seconds.
• While holding the sleepbutton,Press the Home button for 10 seconds.
• Now release the sleep button but continue Holding the home button for about 15 seconds.

Sixth Step:

Your Device is Now Jailbroken!
