Reports Says Android 2.4 will release in April

Google is reportedly preparing to release the next major build of its Android OS at some point in April, and ViewSonic will be among the first cell phone makers to release an Android 2.4-powered device. According to pocket-link Site Viewsonic told them that their ViewPad 4 smartphone would be shipping with Android 2.4 in April. According to report ViewSonic who confirms that version 2.4 of Google’s mobile OS, which will not be called “Ice Cream” according to the report, will feature the ability to run Honeycomb apps on smartphones.

If news from Viewsonic is correct, Android 2.4 not only is real (though not yet publicly released), it’s also still Gingerbread — not Honeycomb, not Ice Cream Sandwich.
Android 2.4 will definitely merge two OS, Gingerbread (mobile OS) and honeycomb (Tablet OS) respectively. The ViewPad 4 is due out this April, which implies other devices based on Android 2.4 should be available around the same time.
